After seven weeks away from competition, TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Sergio Garcia returned to action on the European Tour last weekend at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai and brought along some new weapons – TaylorMade RocketBladez Tour irons. Garcia, returning from a significant competitive break that included a medical procedure to correct an astigmatism, spent three weeks testing the irons at home in Spain during his recovery and loved the results, getting back in the ring with a major change to his bag make-up.

Having played the Tour Preferred MB forged irons throughout the 2012 season, Garcia pulled the muscleback blades in favor of RocketBladez Tour before his first practice round in Dubai, starting at the 4-iron down through his pitching wedge. The most significant performance benefits Garcia identified in his initial testing related to trajectory and distance. Almost immediately, he recognized RocketBladez Tour’s higher launch producing a steeper, quicker-stopping descent angle on approach shots and felt the power of the Speed Pocket in the long irons, giving him a shot of added distance while narrowing the distance gap against his 5-wood.

It didn’t take long for Garcia to get hot with the new irons – in just his second competitive round with RocketBladez Tour, he shot a course-record 64 in Dubai and vaulted up the leaderboard.

“I started really, really well,” Garcia said, after the round. ” I played great on the front nine and I hit a lot of good shots.  I made a lot of good birdies. ”

Garcia battled his way through a tough third round in Dubai before capturing similar brilliance on Sunday, finishing with his second round of 64 in just four days to climb to -14 and finish T9 at the DP World Tour Championship. A top-ten finish competing against an elite European Tour field, including twice challenging the course record, is an encouraging sign for the dynamic pairing of Garcia and the RocketBladez Tour irons.

“I was trying a couple things that obviously worked so that was nice,” Garcia said Sunday. “…and yeah, great to finish with the round I did today.”
