CARLSBAD, Calif. — Determination, willpower and patience drove TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Raphael Jacquelin to his fourth career European Tour victory on Sunday at the Spanish Open, as the Frenchman outlasted two counterparts in an epic, record-breaking nine-hole playoff before securing the win on the 81st hole of competition.
Wielding a full bag of TaylorMade equipment, including the new R1, RocketBallz Stage 2 3-wood and the Lethal golf ball, Jacquelin navigated his way up the 18th hole eight straight times in the playoff before knocking a wedge to five feet on the ninth playoff hole, converting the birdie try to secure the victory.
“That is very tiring but I am really, really happy,” Jacquelin said, following the conclusion of playoff, which took over two hours to settle Sunday. “I could not make any putts but the last one dropped, which means a lot for me and my family.”
With his victory, Jacqueline (now No. 94) moves inside the top-100 in the latest Official World Golf Rankings. TaylorMade was the dominant No. 1 driver brand at the Spanish Open with 57 in play.
