GULLANE, Scotland — TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Justin Rose, coming off his first career major championship victory at the 2013 US Open, decided to follow his winning formula for Merion with intense preparation this week at Muirfield, site of next week’s Open Championship. A comfortable full week out from the Open, Rose concluded two days of dedicated practice on the links at Muirfield on Thursday, putting in a couple hours of range and short game work in the morning before carefully and critically working his way around all 18 holes in a solo practice round in Gullane.
From analyzing historical pin positions – Justin’s caddy, Mark Fulcher, recalled pins from his yardage book at the 2002 Open Championship, where Rose finished T22nd – to getting comfortable around the greens, Rose carefully navigated his way around Muirfield Thursday with the same preparedness, focus and energy that truly paid off during his US Open Championship victory at Merion.
In addition to his practice round, Rose also conducted some testing with our new SLDR prototype before and during his practice round on-course at Muirfield including comparison testing with his R1 driver and came away impressed with the performance, as well as the sound and feel of the new model.
