SLDR is No. 1 Driver Model at WGC-Bridgestone InvitationalAugust 3, 2013
Akron, OHIO — This week the driver we first introduced on major Tours as a prototype nearly a month ago – the SLDR – launched officially to golfers everywhere, soon to be in the hands of pros and amateurs alike. That said, with a field featuring 49 of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings at Firestone, we were proud to see SLDR become the No. 1 driver model this week with 12 in play, including US Open Champion Justin Rose. Rose, who first tested SLDR the week before the Open Championship in his preparation for Muirfield, arrived in Akron eager to dial in the launch conditions and get totally comfortable with the new model and that’s precisely what he did.
If not unprecedented, the adoption rate and word of mouth buzz we’ve experienced in the first month with SLDR has been on par with some of our most successful product introductions in recent history.
In addition to Rose and Dustin Johnson, a couple of other 2013 Tour winners had SLDR in the bag this week at Firestone including Stephen Gallacher and Boo Weekley. Weekley first played the driver at the John Deere Classic while Gallacher, who was seeing significant distance gains testing the prototype against his R1 at the Scottish Open, felt comfortable making the switch this week. From the convincing numbers we’re seeing on launch monitors to the continuing feedback on the positive side for sound and feel, SLDR has been a home run with our Tour Staff and we anticipate a successful stretch heading into the 2013 PGA Championship and FedExCup Playoffs.
