It’s always interesting when the Top 64 in the world come together and go head-to-head. Yes, there’s a few guys missing, but that doesn’t stop some great matches happening in the first round and all the way to the final.

TaylorMade is well represented with the likes of Day, Johnson, Rose and Garcia…basically the new TM Speed Police Team! And there’s always comparisons to how players will fare in a matchplay situation versus stroke play…especially in a Ryder Cup year!

But form, although important, can take a back seat in this format as just doing enough to beat the other guy and a little bit of luck can be the deciding factor in making it deep into the brackets.

It’s the first WGC event of the year, hear from TaylorMade’s Keith Sbarbaro and Paul Loegering on the spectrum of players coming in from around the world and their feedback on TaylorMade’s 2014 product line.

The WGC Matchplay always brings in some fresh faces from the European Tour and with access to the Truck , following their Middle East swing, many took the opportunity to perform routine maintenance including loft/lie checks and re-grips.

Peter Hanson, who advanced the second round, came into the tour van Monday and was excited to see “all the goodies” as he put it. He was especially excited about the new JetSpeed line of metalwoods, specifically the look of the driver and 3-wood at address. He has been playing a Burner SuperFast 2.0 3-wood because he likes the profile at address. He said the JetSpeed looks a lot like his old Burner and he looks forward to working it into the bag.

Playing as No.1 seed, Justin Rose made his 2014 debut last week at Riviera and played a combo set of Tour Preferred MB and MC irons. This week, Rose added a Tour Preferred CB 3-iron to use on tighter tee shots and to chase onto the long par-5 greens.

On Monday, Rose once again raved about his JetSpeed 3-wood. He is playing a Matrix Velox T shaft, + half an inch. The ball flight is strong and he has no problem launching it into the air. The affinity for the JetSpeed 3-wood is fitting, given the fact that he has a starring role in TaylorMade’s new advertising campaign “Speed Police.”
