MASTERS: Monday Practice
It was a cool, misty and overcast morning, giving the grounds an eerie and ghostly beauty; but eventually the threatening skies opened and the course was declared closed at 10:18 a.m. Jason Day, one of the favorites this week, was one of the few who got a full practice round in, though several of our Tour Staff pros put in a good few two to three hours on the range before action halted for the day.
Although the course closed, our Tour Truck stayed open. We typically don’t build many clubs at Augusta, since most players arrive with their bags fully dialed with what they need to manage this course, and they aren’t interested in experimenting with anything new during the practice days.
However, John Huh requested a new JetSpeed 3-wood and Y.E. Yang asked for new Tour Preferred short-irons – 8, 9 and pitching wedge – all built to the sound of steady rain drumming on the truck’s metallic roof, which continued well into the afternoon.
